BROOKLYN – Visiting University of Maine-Presque Isle controlled the final three quarters in running away with a 72-34 win over the Cannoneers at the Pratt ARC in non-conference women's basketball play Friday night.
Freshman Emily Guerra led Pratt with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Amissa Epperson followed with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Guerra continued her stellar shooting after a 4-7 three-point range effort a night ago, knocking down a trey to put Pratt on top 3-0. Epperson and Anna Bryce layups closed out the first quarter with the Cannoneers on top 12-9.
The Owls scored the first five points of the second, taking a 15-12 lead on a Rylee Wright triple, and they never relinquished the lead from there. A Guerra layup trimmed the lead to one, but a 13-0 run to end the second sent Presque Isle on top 30-17 going into halftime.
An 8-0 run capped by another Alston three-pointer midway through the third distanced the Owls for good, leading 43-19. Amanda Hotham scored career point 1,000 with a layup at the 2:45 mark of the third, and the visitors outscored Pratt 19-2 in the fourth in its 72-34 win.
Hotham's 24 points and 13 reboudns led all players, while Wright added 11 points and 12 boards.
Pratt returns to play Thursday in HVIAC play at Vaughn College. The Cannoneers bested the Warriors in the teams' earlier meeting 72-53.
