Men's Soccer's Falls to Vaughn's Second Half Outburst, 10-3

NEW YORK, N.Y. – October 7, 2018 -  Despite going into halftime trailing by one goal, the Pratt Institute men's soccer team fell to Vaughn College Sunday afternoon at Randall's Island, 10-3.

With the loss, the Cannoneers fell to 3-6, while the Warriors move to 2-3.

In between the pipes, Pratt's Carter Boliek finished with 14 saves in an eventful game, while Vaughn split the match with two goal keepers, Hussein Salah and John Vizhnay, who both recorded four saves each in their respective halves. For the game, the Warriors out-shot the Cannoneers 24-13.

Vaughn struck first, scoring in the 15th minute, and followed up in the 35th minute with a goal off a rebound, to push the lead to two goals. Pratt's Juan Gomez earned a penalty kick in the 40th minute, and capitalized on the opportunity, cutting the deficit to one as the teams entered intermission.

Pratt finished with seven shots in the first frame to Vaughn's 12, and neither team yielded a corner kick.

Within the first seven minutes of the second half, the Warriors had scored three goals, to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Pratt's Diego Pina de la Hoz was able to respond in the 53rd minute with a goal of his own, but it wasn't until the 88th minute when the Cannoneers would find the back of the net again, thanks to a goal by Dylan Cabral. By then, Vaughn had tacked on five more goals, to finish with 10 for the match.

Up Next: Pratt will face Berkeley College (NY) at Aviator Field on Wednesday, October 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
