Cannoneers earn split at Sarah Lawrence tri-match

BRONXVILLE, NY – The Pratt Cannoneers recorded a tri-match split on Sunday afternoon at Noyes Court on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College. The Cannoneers started out by blanking Sarah Lawrence, 3-0, before falling to Dean College, 3-0.

On the afternoon, outside hitter Dean Liaw led the Pratt attack with 27 kills, while fellow sophomore Albi Marke added 18 kills to go along with 22 digs and 10 aces. Kristopher Patton, in his first season at setter, tallied 42 assists over the two games.

Match 1 | Pratt 3, Sarah Lawrence 0: Behind Dean Liaw's 16 kills, the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute recorded their first victory of 2018, a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) victory over the host Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College.

Liaw led all players by hitting for .324 on 34 attempts with just five errors while also registering four service aces. Albi Marke collected seven kills and a game-high seven aces, and sophomore setter Kristopher Patton notched 21 assists for the victors.

Defensively, the Cannoneers forced the Gryphons into 20 hitting errors and a negative hitting percentage for the match, including a -.444 mark in the first set. Marke paced Pratt with 11 digs, and Ye Hu Hwang added eight defensive scoops.

Match 2 | Pratt 0, Dean College 3: Despite the tandem of Dean Liaw and Albi Marke combining for 22 kills, the Cannoneers fell to the Dean College Bulldogs 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-15) to split their weekend slate.

After struggling against the Bulldogs a week ago, Pratt showed much improvement in the second meeting. Marke and Liaw each hit for 11 kills, while Kristopher Patton continued his improved play at setter – posting 21 assists for the second consecutive match.

For the Bulldogs, Diondre Charros led all players with 15 kills and five aces.

Up Next: The Cannoneers return to Brooklyn for their home opener when they welcome the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Tuesday, February 13. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
