BROOKLYN, N.Y. - September 20, 2018 - The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team delivered a straight-set win over Old Westbury Thursday night at the Pratt ARC.
The Cannoneers were victorious by the scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-10 and improved to 4-5 on the year, and the Panthers fell to 1-8.
Madeline Markley led all players with 10 kills to go along with three service aces, while Cori Glidden added five kills at a .714 clip. Avery Toomes ran the attack with 29 assists and also collected three service aces and one dig, and Ivana Santascoy had a match-best 11 digs.
Pratt had a terrific start to the match, jumping out to a 7-2 cushion following a service ace from Marlena Todd. The visiting Panthers would climb back within 10-6, thanks to a Pratt attack error, but the Cannoneers used a kill from Yessenia Sanchez to jumpstart a 6-1 push. Pratt would finish the set with three straight points, including a kill from Mikelic on set point, for a 25-12 decision. The Cannoneers limited the Panthers to a .062 hitting percentage.
Two service aces by Old Westbury's Kyraleigh Zinnel highlighted an early 5-0 lead in the second set, but Pratt forced the Panthers into five attack errors in the set and battled its way to a 25-23 win, capping things off by a kill from Glidden.
The Cannoneers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the beginning stages of the third set, following consecutive service aces by Toomes. With the Panthers fighting back, Pratt put together a 12-4 surge to earn a 19-8 edge following a set error from Old Westbury. A service ace on match point from Toomes would seal the sweep at 25-10.
Up Next: Pratt will travel this upcoming weekend to Davis College for a tri-match with the Falcons and College of New Rochelle. The Cannoneers will face the Blue Angels at 3:00 PM, followed by a matchup with the hosts at 5:00 PM.
