BRONXVILLE, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's basketball team (1-0) downed Sarah Lawrence College for a season open victory, 62-59 on Saturday evening.
Senior
Emily Guerra (Babylon, NY) dominated down low, finishing with eight points and 18 rebounds.
Beverlee Caraway (Pryor, OK) and
Idalia Kaplan (Seattle, WA) pitched in with 13 points a piece.
Pratt's defense was stellar throughout, forcing 22 turnovers while blocking 11 shots and totaling seven steals.Â
Despite trailing by four at half, the Cannoneers outscored Sarah Lawrence 17-13 to tie the game at 46 going into the fourth quarter.
With the score tied at 57 with a little under two minutes remaining, Pratt scored the next five points to take its largest lead of the game at 62-57. Sarah Lawrence got within three with 30 seconds remaining, the Pratt's defense shutdown the Gryphons, forcing a last second three-point miss as the Cannoneers held on for the three point victory.
Pratt returns to action on Wednesday for its home opener when it hosts Berkeley College at 8 pm.
