BROOKLYN, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's volleyball team (3-4, 0-0 HVIAC) came back from dropping the first set to win in four, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-18) on Thursday evening.
Fresh off being named ACAA and HVIAC Player of the Week honors,
Paola Beniquez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) led the Cannoneers with 14 kills, eight digs and six service aces.
Badesim Kubak (Istanbul, Turkey) had a season high 42 assists while
Elizabeth Hannah (Tampa, Fl.) added a season high 14 kills.
Despite dropping the first set 25-22, Pratt came storming back in the second set to win 25-20 and tie the match at one.
To begin the third set, the Cannoneers won 10 of the first 13 points to take a 10-3 lead. After Maritime won the next point, Pratt ran off a 9-0 run to blow the set open at 19-4. Maritime would follow with four straight points however Pratt would close out the set strong, winning 25-13.
Trailing 9-8 in the fourth set, Pratt mounted a 6-0 run to take a 14-9 advantage, its largest of the set. Pratt would push the lead to seven, with Maritime not getting closer than four as the Cannoneers took the set, 25-18 and the match, 3-1.
Pratt improves to 2-0 at home and finished with a team total of 55 kills, 48 assists and 40 digs.
The Cannoneers are back in action on Saturday when it travels to Sarah Lawrence College for a tri-match beginning at 11 am.
