Women's Basketball Hangs on For Thrilling Overtime Win

BROOKLYN, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's basketball team (4-10) defeated Bryant and Stratton Albany in overtime, 74-68 on Sunday afternoon.

Beverlee Caraway (Pryor, OK) led the Cannoneers with 19 points, six steals, five assists and four rebounds. Idalia Kaplan (Seattle, WA) added eight points and a season high 15 rebounds while Emily Guerra (Babylon, NY) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.

After the Bobcats led 14-11 heading to the second quarter, Pratt scored the next six points to take a 17-14 lead. Pratt upped the lead to four midway through the period at 22-18. Both teams went back and forth over the next four minutes as the Cannoneers held on for a 30-28 lead heading into halftime.

To begin the third quarter, Pratt scored six of the first nine points to gain a 36-31 advantage, its largest of the game. The Cannoneers continued to build its lead as it rose to eight before the Bobcats scored the final four points to cut the deficit to 47-43 heading to the fourth quarter.

Over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Bobcats outscored Pratt by seven to take a 57-54 lead. Pratt came right back as Caraway scored the next five points to regain the lead for the Cannoneers, 59-57. Despite a four point lead with 47 seconds remaining for Pratt, the Bobcats managed to scored the next four points to tie the game at 63 and send it to overtime.

In overtime, the Bobcats took an early four point lead, however the Cannoneers stormed right back, scoring the next five points to take a one point lead with a minute remaining. Over the final minute, Pratt allowed just one point while scoring six to take the game, 74-68. Throughout overtime, Pratt held the Bobcats to just 2-12 from the field.

Pratt held the Bobcats to 33% shooting from the floor and forced 22 turnovers.

Pratt returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Five Towns College at 1 pm.
