BROOKLYN, NY - The Pratt Institute's women's volleyball team (3-3) rolled to a shutout win over The King's College NY, 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-20) on Tuesday evening in the ARC.
Avery Toomes (Houston, TX) finished with a season high 24 assists and four service aces. Â
Josie Johnson (Trabuco Canyon, CA) added 10 kills while
Olivia Julich (Philadelphia, PA) had a season high four blocks.
In the first set of the match, the Cannoneers dominated 25-11. Pratt scored the first six points of the match to take command from the get-go. With the score 9-4, Pratt rolled off the next seven points to take a commanding 16-4 advantage. Leading 22-1, the Cannoneers scored the next three points to win the first set.
The second set was the closet set of the three with Pratt coming back in the set to win 25-23. With Pratt leading 14-9, the Lions scored the 11 of the next 12 points to take a 20-15 lead, its largest of the match. The Cannoneers would storm back and surrender just three more points, including winning seven of the final eight points to take the set 25-23.
The final set featured back and forth action before Pratt once again pulled away, winning the third set 25-20. Leading 11-8, Pratt won four of the next five points to gain a six point advantage, its largest of the set. The Lions clawed their way back to get within 18-17, however the Cannoneers took seven of the final 10 points to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
As a team, Pratt finished the match with 31 kills, 28 assists and 18 service aces.
Pratt returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Sarah Lawrence College at 7 pm.
