BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the opening set and saw three Cannoneers put away double-figure kills to come away with a 3-1 triumph (22-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-16) over the City College of New York on Wednesday evening at the Activities Resource Center.
Olivia Julich pounded a match-high 16 kills with a .333 hitting and Emily Sontag added 13 kills at a .286 clip. Senior Rose Moon slammed 12 kills while hitting .233 to go along with match-highs of 21 digs and six aces.
A close opening set saw CCNY race out to a 7-1 lead before Pratt responded with an 7-1 run to draw even and both teams remained within three points the remainder of the set, but the Beavers would hold on for the 25-22 and early lead.
After the early hiccup, the black-and-gold found their footing and limited the Beavers to no more than 16 points in the final three sets and never trailing aside from surrendering the opening point of set four.
Pratt rolled in set four combining for 16 kills against one error for a .489 hitting frame led by Moon's seven kills on seven swings.
Senior Deanna Colondona finished with 11 digs and four aces and classmates Ivana Santacoy and Zeynep Akgol added four kills each. Senior Sandy Eldeiry was also honored in pre-match ceremonies and made an appearance in set four. Gabby Genduso dished out 39 assists to direct the offense that combined for 49 kills and hit .201.
Ranked ninth in the nation in aces per set, the Cannoneer landed 20 aces with five different players serving at least two aces each.
CCNY was paced by Fatimah Coppin's 11 kills and Bianka Catral chipped in seven kills.
After wrapping up a four-match homestand and eight matches at the ARC, Pratt heads to the Keystone State to take on Moravian University on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
