FLUSHING, N.Y. – Alice Li delivered the deciding point and Victoria Delgado won in both her matches as the Pratt Institute women's tennis team edged Baruch College, 5-4, on Thursday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Cannoneers wrap up the fall portion of their 2022-23 schedule without a loss at 8-0 overall – the best start through eight games since opening 7-1 in 2013-14. The defending CUNYAC Champion Bearcats fall to 9-3.
Pratt held a 2-1 lead after doubles with Sophie Bischoff and Ariana Castro taking the No. 1 pairs match, 8-3, and Delgado and Julia Ognibene taking the No. 3 flight, 8-2.
Castro and Delgado both secured comfortable victories at singles – Castro 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Delgado 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 – to push the Cannoneer lead to 4-3. Li held off her opponent at No. 6 singles and clinched the overall match in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (1),
Ognibene played a hard-fought match at No. 3 singles before succumbing in a third-set tiebreak, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Pratt resumes their spring schedule on Friday, March 24, taking on Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.
