WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior Victoria Delgado was victorious in both of her matches as the Pratt Institute women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their schedule with a 7-2 defeat to Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon.
Delgado teamed up with Julia Ognibene for a convincing, 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, the lone point of the pairs session. Sophie Bischoff and Ariana Castro played a hard-fought match in the top flight before falling by a break, 8-1.
Wilkes (1-2) clinched the overall match with three straight singles wins before Delgado posted another point for the black-and-gold with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) straight-set win in the No. 5 position. Shannon Bollin and Alice Li both won their opening sets before falling in a third set super-tiebreaker. Bollin dropped a 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5) decision at No. 4 and Li fell 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7) at No. 6.
Pratt (8-1) will look to rally from their first loss of the season on Friday, March 31 traveling to borough rivals Brooklyn College for a 3 p.m. match.
