FLUSHING, N.Y. – Victoria Delgado won both of her matches and delivered the deciding point as the Pratt Institute women's tennis team (5-0) remained undefeated with a narrow 5-4 victory over Marywood University (2-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Billy Jean King U.S. National Tennis Center.
With the overall match in the balance tied at 4-all, Delgado's 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles kept the Cannoneers unbeaten. She also teamed up with Julia Ognibene at No. 3 doubles for an 8-3 win to collect the lone point as Pratt trailed heading into singles, 2-1.
Shannon Bollin dispatched her opponent at No. 4 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, in the lone straight-set match of the very competitive singles session before the Pacers went ahead 4-2 with wins in the No. 6 and No. 3 position.
Ariana Castro rallied after dropping her first set and won her third set at love in a, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles. Nastazja Cancellaro hung on for a point in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 battle in the lead singles match to knot the overall match at 4-all, setting up the win for Delgado in the No. 5 spot.
Pratt returns to the National Tennis Center on Thursday, October 13 to host Oneonta at 5 p.m.
