BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore Kylie Grant reached 20 points for the fifth straight game and flirted with another double-double, but the Pratt Institute women's basketball team lost to Medgar Evers College, 56-48, on Sunday afternoon to conclude the Dr. Betty Shabazz Invitational.
Grant scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, swiped five steals and handed out four assists to lead Pratt (0-8). Senior Kinako Miyake drained four trifectas, pulled secured seven caroms and dished out four dimes. Almudena Valenzuela chipped in six points and Rohama Tewodros matched her season nine boards and contributed five points.
Shelly Quezada recorded a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double off the bench to lead three in double figures for Medgar Evers (2-4).
The Cannoneers took an early lead after an administrative technical free throw to start the game and opened the game on a 9-2 run powered by eight straight from Grant, but the black-and-gold found themselves down 17-13 at the first break.
A Miyake four-point play put Pratt back ahead by four, 23-19, before the hosts closed out the half on a 5-0 to lead 30-25 going to the lockers and never trailed again.
Pratt will look to split the season series with York College with a road rematch with the Cardinals on Wednesday, November 30 tipping off a 6 p.m.
