Track Breaks Six Records in Season Opener at Youree Spence Garcia Invitational

Siena Sujitno set two records in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Competing against a field of predominantly Division I and II runners, the Pratt Institute men's and women's indoor track and field teams set six new program records at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational on Saturday, hosted by St. John's University at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Four individual records fell on the women's side. Sophomore Siena Sujitno set the new program standards in the 60-meter dash (8.14) and 200-meter dash (28.22). Junior Ava Hunwick bested the Pratt mark in the 300-meter dash (48.21) with first-year Ella Ambroggio finishing just behind her in 48.39 – second best in team history. Sophomore Christina Sancho-Spore broke the 1000-meter dash mark in 3.27.42.

On the men's side, sophomore Thomas Perrone took the lead with 350 meters to go to win heat two of the 1000-meter dash in 2:42.19 for the second best time in program history. His eighth-place finish was the highest of the team on the night, and only bested by seven Division I runners.

Both 4x400 relay squads set new men's and women's program bests. Perrone, Ian Chen, David Valentine and Bruce Westgate combined for a time of 3:56.38 for the men while Hunwick, Emily Byun, Ambroggio, and Sancho-Spore teamed up for a women's-best time of 4:45.57.

The Pratt track and field teams return to action at the after the new year for the MLK Tribute Meet on January 16, 2023 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
