BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Returning to the hardwood for the first game in nearly a month, sophomore Kylie Grant racked up an 18-point, 23-rebound double-double to lead the Pratt Institute women's basketball team to a 49-42 triumph over Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus on Monday evening at the Activity Resource Center.
The victory was the first for the season for Pratt (1-12) who also secured the first NCAA coaching win for head coach Ziggy Brown.
Grant extended her streak scoring in double figures to 15 games with her seventh double-double of the season and also handed out three assists. Senior Kinako Miyake chipped in 12 points and had three dimes with two steals and two rebounds. Rohamam Tewodros had a near double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
Abigail Rodriguez paced FDU (0-10) with 25 points and six caroms. Whitney Shyposh added an 11-point, 18 rebound double-double.
The Devils scored the first three points of the contest before the Cannoneers responded with six unanswered to move on top and never trail again. Pratt led 13-6 after the first quarter which proved to be the decisive frame as the final three quarters were decided by two points or fewer.
The visitors were unable to threaten to cut into the Pratt lead, which grew to double digits briefly before the halftime buzzer that saw the gold-and-black up 25-17. The Cannoneers held a double-digit advantage for most of the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 16 in the fourth before a late surge by the Devils.
Pratt hits the road on Wednesday, January 11 to face Centenary University in Hackettstown, New Jersey before returning to the ARC for a four-game home stand. Wednesday's tip is set for 7 p.m.
