BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute men's tennis team secured an 8-1 triumph over borough foes Brooklyn College on Thursday afternoon and improved to 2-0 on their 2023-24 campaign.
The Cannoneers captured all three doubles matches with Mikah Liu and Eagle Zhang collecting an 8-2 win in the lead match, Mehul Bhargava and Ryan Nelsen prevailing 8-4 in the No. 2 position and Calder Tillinghast and Caleb Callahan winning 8-3 in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Bhargava cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 3 slot and Zhang bypassed his No. 2 foe 6-1, 6-3. The remaining four matches were highly contested with Liu winning the lead match, 7-5, 6-4, Tillinghast rallying after dropping the opening set at No. 4, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) and Callahan edging out his opponent in No. 6 in a double tiebreaker, 7-6, 7-6.
When the two borough rivals met last season in the first meeting between the two programs, the Bulldogs won 7-2 and 8-1.
Pratt resumes their Spring schedule with a road test against Yeshiva University on March 5, 2024.
