NEWARK, N.J. — The Pratt Institute played their first match of the spring portion of their 2023-24 campaign and fell to Yeshiva University, 7-2, on the road on Tuesday evening. Three of the matches went to a third set as the Cannoneers dropped to 2-1 on the season.
Yeshiva posted the first point with an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 doubles, before Pratt's Mikah Liu and Eagle Zhang teamed up for an 8-3 win in the lead match. The Maccabees took a 2-1 lead into singles despite a battle from Mehul Bhargava and Ryan Nelsen in an 8-6 defeat at No. 2 pairs.
In singles, the hosts claimed the first four points in the top four matches to clinch the win. Calder Tillinghast secured the lone singles point for Pratt in the No. 5 position holding on for a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
Liu was edged out in a marathon in the top singles match, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (15-13) and Bhargava also fell in the third set in the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Pratt returns to the courts on Saturday, March 23 to face Farmingdale State in a 1 p.m. road test.
