Women’s Volleyball Outlasts Sarah Lawrence in Five-Set Road Battle

The Cannoneers hit .370 with just one error in the deciding fifth set.

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Led by a career-high 20 kills from junior Olivia Julich, the Pratt Institute women's volleyball team prevailed over Sarah Lawrence College, 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-9), on Saturday afternoon.

Julich's 20 kills were a match-best as she hit .220 on the afternoon and added six digs and two blocks. Colleen Russell put away seven error-free kills for a .467 hitting effort with three blocks. Emily Sontag also landed seven kills at a .238 clip to go along with two aces, six digs and three blocks.

Josie Johnson contributed four kills, two aces and 13 digs. Gabby Genduso handed out 35 assists with 10 digs for a double-double and Emma Leavey led three Cannoneers with double-digit digs with 16.

The back-and-forth match saw the Cannoneers (9-10) nab the opening set and both teams proceeded to trade sets with Pratt taking sets one, three and five. The highly-contested third set featured 11 ties and seven lead changes and Pratt rallied from trailing 21-17, erased a set Gryphon set point, and won the final three points to maintain their lead.

In the fifth-and-deciding set, Pratt built a 6-2 lead before seeing it dwindle to one at 7-6, but the Cannoneers maintained their composure and won the next five points to distance themselves for good. Julich finished with five of her kills in the set and hit .400, while Sontag knocked four of her seven kills at .500 to overwhelm the hosts. The black-and-gold finished with a .370 hitting (11-1-27) in the final stanza.

Pratt returns home to the ARC to host Yeshiva University on Tuesday, October 31st in their Dig Pink game starting at 7 p.m.
