FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute women's tennis team suffered their second loss of the season falling to Empire 8 Champion Hartwick College, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Prior to the match the team honored their senior leader Sophie Bischoff.
Ariana Castro and Srishti Agarwal played a tough close match at No. 2 doubles before succumbing 8-6.
In singles play, Julia Ognibene was the lone match to go to a third set. She rallied in her No. 4 singles match after dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker to force a third-set supertiebreaker but fell short, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). Victoria Delgado played a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles but dropped at 7-6 (3), 6-1 decision.
Bischoff was down a set but on serve in the second before retiring, 6-1, 3-2.
Pratt may play one final tune-up before heading to the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Conference Tennis Championships on April 28-30 hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
