FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute men's tennis team recorded their second straight 9-0 win, defeating John Jay College in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Pratt improves to 6-2 overall with all six wins coming by an 8-1 or 9-0 margin.
Mehul Bhargava and Ryan Nelsen prevailed in the top pair match, 8-5, while Matthew Stachura and Cole Rudy rolled at second doubles, 8-1.
Bhargava and Nelsen collected matching straight-set wins, 6-2, 6-1, in the top two singles matches – Nelsen maintaining his unblemished record at singles, improving to 8-0.
Stachura won at love, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 position while Rudy took his opening set at love, but outlasted his opponent at No. 3 singles in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7)
John Jay (1-4) defaulted the No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches.
The Cannoneers return to the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday, April 14 to host Rutgers University-Newark at 6:30 p.m.
