PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team remained undefeated in their 2023 campaign defeating Purchase College in straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-15) on the road on Thursday evening.
Junior middle Olivia Julich assembled a solid all-around game slamming 11 kills at a .500 clip, the only player with double-figure kills. The reigning Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week also stuffed seven blocks (three solo) and brought up a team-high-tying nine digs.
Sophomore Emily Sontag put down seven kills and was a part of eight blocks (one solo) and served a pair of aces. Fifth-year Zeynep Akgol landed six kills against one error in a .455 hitting effort.
First-year Colleen Russell had a pair of kills and a pair of blocks to go along with four aces. Classmate Niya Witherspoon added three error-free kills.
Senior Hannah Leitten dished out 26 assists to lead the team to a .286 hitting night and fell one dig shy of a double-double.
The Panthers (2-3) raced out to a 7-2 lead to open the match before the Cannoneers (3-0) assembled a 14-2 run to take control of the frame. The black-and-gold took early leads in the second and third sets and never let the hosts threaten again.
Pratt carries their unblemished record to Ramapo College on September 16. The Cannoneers open the Saturday tri-match facing FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. before squaring off with the host Roadrunners at 3 p.m.
