Men’s Soccer Unable to Ascend Clarks Summit in Opener

The Cannoneers held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal in defeat.

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Pratt Institute men's soccer team fell on the road to Clarks Summit University, 2-0, in their 2023 season opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Cannoneers (0-1) finished even with the Defenders (1-0) in shots, 14-all, and managed put more on target than the hosts, 7-4, but unable to place one in goal. The hosts went ahead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Kingsley Okoi and held a 1-0 lead at the break.

With black-and-gold searching for the equalizer, the Cannoneers took to the offensive early in the second stanza and the hosts held on to their one-goal lead before Okoi found the back of the net again for an insurance goal approaching 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Sophomore transfer Griffin Benkovszky led the Pratt offense with six shots, three on goal. Morvens Regis and Vengkheang Meng both fired off a pair of shots that prompted a CSU save. Anil Pugh made two saves in a losing effort in goal.

Pratt travels to Lehman College on Thursday, September 7. The men play in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the women with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
