NEW YORK – After a scoreless opening 45 minutes of play, Pratt Institute and the University of Valley Forge went back and forth to a 2-2 result on Tuesday evening on a rainy afternoon at Randall's Island.
The Patriots (2-5-1) struck first in the 52nd minute on a Sam Johns goal off a run up the left side. The Cannoneers (0-4-1) responded quickly less than five minutes later when Regis Morvens re-entered the game and blasted a shot from distance that the goalie couldn't fight off and found the back of the net.
Theo Goldman put the gold-and-black ahead in the 60th minute with a long-distance strike that caught the keeper coming off his line and found just under the crossbar. The visitors had an opportunity to pull level in the 74th minute after a handball in the box granted a penalty kick, but Anil Pugh came up strong and made the stop diving to his right to preserve the one-goal lead. Pratt carried the momentum and remained ahead for the majority of the second half, before the visitors found the equalizer in the final five minutes of regulations as Anthony Konah headed in a ball in traffic in the box.
For Morvens and Goldman, it was their first goals of the 2023 season. Anil Pugh made six saves in the tie. UVF finished with a 17-10 edge in shots
Riding their first point of the season, Pratt travels to Penn State Berks on Friday, September 29 for a 5 p.m. showdown.
