BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Colleen Russell registered a double-double as the Pratt Institute women's volleyball team defeated Lehman College, 3-1, in a non-conference affair on Monday evening at The Hill Center.
The Cannoneers (5-9) rallied after dropping the opening set and held Lehman (5-10) to under 15 points in the next three frames in a 22-25, 25-9, 25-14, 25-14 triumph.
Russell put away a match-high 14 kills against just one error to finish hitting .565 on the night and paired it with 13 digs and three aces for the second double-double of her career. Natalie Dziadzio recorded eight kills with three aces and three digs. Kelsy Padilla chipped in seven kills on an efficient .385 hitting with a team-high 14 digs and two aces.
Emily Sontag handed out 18 assists with six kills, six digs and five aces while sister Alison Sontag dished out 15 assists with five kills, six digs and three aces. Emma Leavey brought up 13 digs while serving three aces.
In an opening set that saw nine ties and three lead changes, the visitors closed out the frame on a 6-2 run to take the early lead. Pratt found their rhythm in the second stanza hitting .478 in the frame and never looked back. The Cannoneers carried the momentum into the third and fourth sets and trailed just briefly to start the third and maintained a comfortable gap as they limited the Lightning to just six kills in the final two frames.
Pratt travels to the Bay State for their final tune-ups before opening Atlantic East Conference play. The Cannoneers face Lasell University and Suffolk University in a tri-match on Saturday, October 12 starting at 11 a.m.
