BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team cut a 21-point deficit down to seven before falling to the City College of New York, 61-51, on Monday evening at the Activities Resource Center.
Kylie Grant paced Pratt with a 20-point, 17-rebound double-double – her ninth of the season. She was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and dished out four assists. Siena Sujitno drained 3-of-4 from three-point land to score a season-high nine points. Oliva Julich and Almudena Valenzuela scored eight points each – Julich stuffing the stat sheet with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals and Valenzuela picking up pairs of rebounds, assists and steals.
After building a 28-13 lead at the half, CCNY tried to pull away in the third and continued to extend their advantage leading by as many as 21 before Pratt brought it back to 13 and trailed 42-27 heading into the final quarter. The Cannoneers continued to keep CCNY in reach in the fourth and slowly chipped away at the deficit, pulling within 10 with just over six minutes to play and later using a 7-1 spurt to pull within seven, 50-43, with 3:24 to play, but couldn't get any closer despite CCNY playing shorthanded due to foul outs and clinging on for the victory finishing with three players.
Pratt would finish the fourth shooting 39 percent (9-of-23) with four players chipping in a bucket and Grant nearly recording a double-double in the period (10 points, 8 rebounds).
Kasia Morrison led CCNY with 24 points and Anais Rosa had a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Pratt travels to Kings Point, N.Y. to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday, February 8 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
