PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team collected their second straight win and improved to 4-1 on the season defeating St. Joseph's University (Long Island), 8-1, on Friday evening.
Ryan Nelsen dropped just one game on the day winning his No. 3 singles match at love, 6-0, 6-0, and teaming up with Calder Tillinghast for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Tillinghast took a comfortable win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Mikah Liu and Mehul Bhargava coasted to an 8-1 win in the lead pairs match. Liu overcame a slow start in the lead singles match in a straight-set 7-5, 6-2 victory. Bhargava posted a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in the No. 2 position.
Caleb Callahan scored a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and was victorious at No. 3 pairs with Shrenik Mahaveer, 8-5. Mahaveer played a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles, but fell in a third-set supertiebreaker, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0.
Pratt returns to the courts tomorrow to host Sarah Lawrence College at 12:30 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
