FLUSHING, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 triumph over Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center. Winners of three straight, the Cannoneers improve to 5-1 on the season.
Pratt swept the doubles session winning the top two matches, 8-2, Mikah Liu and Eagle Zhang teaming up in the lead match and Mehul Bhargava and Ryan Nelsen joining in the No. 2 spot. Calder Tillinghast and Caleb Callahan posted an 8-3 win in the No. 3 match.
Zhang, Tillinghast and Callahan all took convincing wins at singles dropping just one game in straight-set victories. Zhang won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles with Tillinghast and Callahan both prevailing 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Bhargava cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match.
Nelsen battled back in the No. 4 spot after dropping his opening set, posting a 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 come-from-behind win. Liu was pushed to the limit in the lead singles match before succumbing in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Pratt tries for four straight hosting Baruch College next Sunday, April 7 in a 1:30 p.m. battle at the USTA National Tennis Center.
