COBLESKILL, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team came up empty-handed from their two-match set in upstate New York to open the season, dropping a 2-0 decision to SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday afternoon.
Pratt maintained an 18-12 shot advantage for the contest with all but two shots finding their target. The Cannoneers (0-2) fired four quick shots in the opening 14 minutes before Cobleskill (1-1) opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a Connor Fancher tally. The black-and-gold would finish with a 9-4 shot discrepancy but went into the lockers trailing 1-0.
Less than five minutes into the second stanza, Pratt had a chance to equalize after drawing a foul in the box, but couldn't capitalize from the spot. The hosts clung on to the one-goal lead with Pratt continuing to press for the equalizer, but the Fighting Tigers netted an insurance goal as Fancher broke free from midfield in the 82nd minute.
Dylan Costa and Vengkheang Meng both fired four shots each and Griffin Benkovszky got off a trio of shots. Anil Pugh stopped three shots in net and Carter Tillman finished with two saves.
Pratt returns to Brooklyn to face Medgar Evers College in a road test on Saturday, September 7. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Old Boys High School.
