NEW YORK — Dylan Costa scored the equalizer to lead the Pratt Institute men's soccer team to a 1-1 non-conference draw with borough foes Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island Field 10.
The Cougars (0-2-1) struck first on Jimmy Luna's goal in the 11th minute that was the lone tally of an evenly-matched first half.
Coming out of intermission, Pratt (0-2-1) pressed hard for the equalizer and outshot the hosts 12-1 while earning four corners — the first of the match for either side — over the first 25 minutes of the second stanza. The Cannoneers finally broke through in the 70th minute as Vengkheang Meng found Costa's head for the first goal of the season.
After conceding the equalizer, Medgar Evers went back on the offensive and fired five shots that were all turned away by Anil Pugh to help preserve the tie. The Cannoneers earned a corner in the final minute with a chance to go ahead, but saw a pair of shots blocked by the defense and both teams settled for a tie.
Costa and Bryan Hong-Dominguez launched five shots each while Griffin Benkovszky added four, and Aditya Shivkumar had three as Pratt held a 24-10 shot advantage for the contest. Pugh finished with eight saves in goal.
Pratt continues a three-match road stand traveling to SUNY Maritime on Tuesday, September 10 for a 5 p.m. non-conference test.
