NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute women's soccer team scored an early goal and never trailed in a 3-1 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Randall's Island.
The win — the Cannoneers fourth straight in the series — moves Pratt (2-2) back to .500 on the season while the Panthers fall to 0-3.
Sporting their new home uniforms, the Cannoneers scored just two minutes to the contest as a ball played into the box was put into the back of the net by a Panther defender and that remained the difference after 45 minutes of play.
Pratt scored early again in the second stanza with Claire Hook scoring her second of the season in the 48th minute for a 2-0 cushion. Old Westbury made it a one-goal game in Jaylyn Sanchez breakaway goal in the 66th minute, but the Cannoneers responded quickly with Emma Pratt finding Siena Sujitno in space with a long ball from the defensive end, and Sujitno punching in the insurance goal for the final 3-1 deficit.
The Cannoneers maintained a 22-7 shot edge for the contest and 7-0 discrepancy in corners. Emma Gaspari made one save in goal during a scoreless opening half with Savannah Depaz making three saves in the second half.
Pratt hosts City College of New York on Saturday, September 14 in a morning showdown kicking off at 10 a.m. at Randall's Island Field 74.
