RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Despite a pair of double-digit kill efforts from Kelsy Padilla and Colleen Russell, the Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2, on Tuesday evening.
The Dolphins (2-4) took the opening set, 25-18, before the Cannoneers (1-4) won set two, 25-23, and set three, 25-19. Despite the 2-1 advantage, the black-and-gold couldn't hold off the hosts as they nabbed set four, 25-17, and the deciding set, 15-4.
Russell and Padilla both put away a team-leading and career-best 10 kills apiece. Padilla also fell one dig shy of a double-double with nine and served up two aces. Russell chipped in seven digs.
Emily Sontag had a solid all-around effort dishing out 20 assists with four aces, eight digs and two solo blocks. Emma Leavey brought up 14 digs with four assists and an ace. Natalie Dziadzio chipped in five kills with a block assist.
Pratt returns to the court on Thursday, September 19, welcoming City College of New York to The Hill Center for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
