Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Brooklyn to Salvage Split of Battle of Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball saw a five-set comeback bid to St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn) come up short but rebounded with a straight-set victory over Brooklyn College to finish the Battle of Brooklyn tri-match with a 1-1 record on Saturday afternoon at the The Hill Center.

Colleen Russell pounded a career-high 19 kills at a .318 clip to lead Pratt (3-5) against St. Joseph's as they rallied from a 0-2 set deficit to reach go the distance for the third straight match. After Pratt stormed back to win sets three and four, they couldn't keep the momentum into the fifth, and the Bears (7-4) broke away at 3-all with seven unanswered and remained on top for the 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 15-7 win.

Kelsy Padilla chipped in seven kills, three aces and a team-best 15 digs. Emily Sontag distributed 17 assists with three kills and seven digs. Natalie Dzadzio chipped in four kills, and nine digs with a solo block.

Pratt used a balanced attack in the match against Brooklyn as five Cannoneers chipped in five-or-more kills to secure the 25-20, 25-23, 25-20 win. Russell and Padilla shared team-high honors with six kills and 10 digs each, with Russell also serving up a career-high five aces. 

Anabela Jakelic, Dziadzio and Sontag added five kills each as Sontag also handed out 23 assists to go along with five aces and seven digs, while Jakelic also stuffed four blocks (two solo). Cici Liu chipped in three kills.

Pratt returns to The Hill Center as the home team on Monday, September 23, hosting Sarah Lawrence College for a 7 p.m. showdown.
