BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Despite leading for the majority of the contest, the Pratt Institute men's basketball team came away empty handed in their final non-conference game of the season, suffering a 60-55 road setback to borough rivals Brooklyn College on Monday evening.
Mekhi Davis and Thomas Graetz led Pratt (0-16) with 12 points and four assists apiece, Graetz grabbing six boards and Davis securing one fewer. Cameron Windt knocked down three three-pointers in contributing nine points and six rebounds.
A tight first half saw eight lead changes and Pratt creeping out to as large as a six-point lead before taking a 28-26 lead into the lockers.
Brooklyn (7-9) knotted the game early in the second but the Cannoneers took control with a 15-4 run for a 43-32 lead, the first double-digit separation of the game. Pratt extended their lead to as many as 13 on three separate occasions and led 51-38 with 8:55. But the offense stalled and Brooklyn tied the game at 51-all and both teams went scoreless over the final two minutes to force an extra session.
Pratt scored on their opening possession to end a nine-minute scoring drought to take the early lead in overtime. Brooklyn responded with a three-point play to take the lead with Davis hitting a layup to put the black-and-gold back on top. But the Bulldogs outscored Pratt over the final three minutes, 5-0, to complete the comeback.
Brooklyn was led by Stephon McGill's 14-point, 10-rebound double-double and Jaden Casanova also recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Pratt returns to the ARC and hosts Marymount University in an Atlantic East Conference showdown this Saturday, January 25 starting at 1 p.m.
