BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening, falling 62-51 to Washington College (Md.) at the Activity Resource Center.
It was the first meeting between the two programs since Dec. 9, 1978 in a series that started in 1929, also a Shoremen victory. With the loss, the Cannoneers drop to 6-3 on the season, while the Shoremen remain unbeaten at 7-0.
Junior forward Trey Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced Pratt with his third double-double of the season, recording 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds (10 defensive). Senior forward Cameron Hatcher (Cincinnati, Ohio) pulled down 11 boards to go with seven points, while senior guard Sebastian Roda (Greenwich, Conn.) added eight points off the bench.
Despite shooting just 28.1 percent (18-of-64) from the field, Pratt stayed in the game by dominating the glass. The Cannoneers outrebounded Washington College 52-33, including an 18-4 edge on the offensive boards, which led to 11 second-chance points.
Pratt controlled the action early, leading from the opening possession and building its largest lead of the night at 20-13 on a layup by first-year guard Mason Fritz (Orlando, Fla.) with 5:26 remaining in the first half. However, the offense stalled down the stretch, and the Shoremen closed the period on a 14-0 run to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.
Washington College extended its lead to double digits early in the second half and led by as many as 14 points at 55-41 with under three minutes to play. Pratt refused to fold, mounting a furious late rally. A Phillips layup and a Roda 3-pointer cut the deficit to 55-46 with 1:26 left. After a defensive stop, a Fritz tip-in and another Roda triple brought the Cannoneers within six, 57-51, with 38 seconds on the clock.
The comeback bid stalled there, as Washington converted 5-of-6 free throws in the final 35 seconds to seal the victory.
Jon Nalty led the Shoremen with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds and four steals. Ty Woodland chipped in 13 points.
Pratt takes the week off for finals and will look to bounce back on Saturday, Dec. 13, traveling to Jamaica, N.Y., to face York College in their final game of 2025, tipping off at 12 p.m.
