SCRANTON, Pa. — The Pratt Institute women's tennis team completed an undefeated conference campaign Thursday, defeating Marywood University, 5-2, on the road in Atlantic East Conference action.
The win stretches the Cannoneers' win streak to five matches and improved their record to 11-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play, securing them the No. 1 seed for the upcoming 2025 Atlantic East Conference Championship.
Pratt jumped out to an early edge by capturing two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The duo of Pallavi Verghese and Kayla Abraham earned a commanding 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Beatrice Crespo and Victoria Hatala secured a 6-3 win at second doubles.
In singles play, Pratt added victories at four positions to clinch the 5-2 triumph. Abraham dominated the No. 1 singles position, notching a 6-1, 6-1 decision. At No. 2 singles, Pallavi Verghese matched that result, winning convincingly by identical 6-1 sets.
Reigning Player of the Week Crespo secured Pratt another straight-set win in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Victoria Delgado followed suit with her own flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. Julia Ognibene played a hard-fought match at No. 4 singles, getting edged in a third-set supertiebreaker, 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (12-10).
With the conference schedule complete, Pratt hosts Baruch College in in a final tune-up before the conference tournament. The match is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with first serve slated for noon.
