Women’s Tennis Edges Baruch, Closes Regular Season on Six-Match Win Streak

Julia Ognibene delivered the clinching point in a third-set supertiebreaker

FLUSHING, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's tennis team ended the regular season in thrilling fashion, nipping Baruch College, 4-3, in a hard-fought, non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Cannoneers, ranked No. 1 in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament, improved their overall season record to an impressive 12-2, finishing the regular season on a six-match winning streak.

In doubles play, Pratt's duo of Victoria Delgado and Julia Ognibene struck first, winning at No. 3 doubles, 6-4. However, Baruch quickly responded by taking victories at the top two matches, securing the early edge heading into singles competition.

Needing to rally back, Pratt found key performances in singles action. Alice Li dominated her No. 6 singles match with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph, while Delgado cruised in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2 to give the yellow-and-gold a 2-1 lead, before Baruch took the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to regain a 3-2 edge.

In the lead match, Kayla Abraham battled through a challenging matchup before prevailing in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (6). The decisive No. 4 singles match proved to be the clincher as Ognibene persevered in a third-set supertiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9), to secure the 4-3 victory.

With the regular season complete, Pratt now shifts focus to postseason play in search of their first Atlantic East Conference title. The 2025 Atlantic East Conference Championship, hosted by Neumann University, begins with semifinal action on Friday, April 25 at 12 p.m.
