BRONX, N.Y. — Colleen Russell and Kelsy Padilla finished with double-figure kills but the Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped a four-set battle with the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday morning.
Pratt (0-4) won the opening set 25-23, before the Dolphins (3-5) took the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-20, before both squads battled in the fourth frame that went to extra points and featured 11 ties and five lead changes.
The Cannoneers wiped an early 16-11 deficit to take a 22-20 lead and later had two set points at 24-22, but were unable to convert. Pratt fought off three Dolphin set points and gained another set point at 29-28 following a kill from Kelsy Padilla, but UMSV rallied to win the next three points to close out the match in four.
Colleen Russell slammed a match-high-tying 14 kills on a .323 hitting effort with three aces and one block. Padilla logged a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs to go with two aces. Anabela Jakelic put down six kills on .308 hitting with two blocks (one solo). Jamie Shoemake and Joanna Doyle had four kills apiece – Shoemake bringing up seven digs and Doyle stuffing two blocks (one solo). Eden Shih dished out 34 assists to direct the offense and chipped in seven digs and two block assists defensively.
After playing their last three on the road, Pratt returns to the ARC to host Farmingdale State College on Thursday, September 18 starting at 7 p.m.
