NEW YORK — Dylan Costa's goal 71st minute helped the Pratt Institute men's soccer team secure a 1-1 tie with the City College of New York in a non-conference road match on Wednesday evening at Randall's Island.
Both teams played a scoreless first half with Pratt (0-4-1) outshooting CCNY (0-4-1).
The Beavers found the back of the net just five minutes into the second stanza off a goal from Bitoshoke Chakma. Despite taking the early lead, the hosts continued to apply the pressure, getting off the next eight shots, but Pratt keeper Dimitris Pappagiannakoupoulos stopping all five shots on target to keep the Cannoneers within one.
Held to just one shot in the half through 25 minutes, Pratt got an opportunity from the penalty spot but was saved by Beaver keeper Rudy Guttierrez, but Costa broke through just moments later taking advantage of a Beaver miscue in their defensive end, dribbling around two defenders and firing a left-footed blast from outside the box that equalized the game at 1-all and it stood until the final whistle.
Papagiannakopoulos made 10 saves for the contest to help preserve the first result of the season. Costa's goal was his second of the season.
Pratt and CCNY have played to a tie in their last four meetings dating back to 2022.
Pratt heads to Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 20 to take on Penn State Berks for a 5 p.m. tilt.
