NEW YORK – Chloe Tien scored twice and Alyssa Trujillo's highlight reel strike lifted the Pratt Institute women's soccer team to a 3-3 tie with Penn State Abington on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island.
Tien put the Cannoneers (2-2-1) on top in the seventh minute taking a long through ball from Kat Thomsen from midfield to get past the back line and shooting it from the top of the box, placing it perfectly in the bottom right corner.
Pratt remained on top until the Lady Lions (2-3-1) struck just before intermission as Meghan McGinty put back a rebound off a long shot by Meghan McMeel for a 1-1 tie at the half.
The visitors scored a pair of unanswered goals early in the second stanza – Izzy Gonzales in the 51st minute and Kaitlyn Frank in the 62nd minute – to take control of the match before the Cannoneers rallied for the draw.
In the 70th minute, Tien bagged her first collegiate brace, volleying in a ball from close range from a corner kick that wasn't cleared to pull Pratt within one. With just over 10 minutes left in regulation, Trujillo took a flick-on pass from Emma Pratt near the right side of the box and one-touch blasted it into the upper right corner for the eventual equalizer.
Trujillo's goal was her fifth of the season and Tien's registered her fourth in her rookie campaign, finding the back of the net in three of five matches this season.
Undefeated in their last two outings, Pratt heads to Queens to face York College on Monday, September 22 for a 4 p.m. kickoff (note new start time).
