BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team showed resilience on its home court Tuesday night, taking the third set before falling to Sarah Lawrence College in four sets, 25-15, 25-13, 24-26, 25-19, at the Activity Resource Center.
Sophomore Kelsy Padilla had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, with two aces and a block assist. Junior Colleen also finished with 11 kills and fell one dig shy of a double-double, stuffing two blocks and serving an ace.
First-year Maggie Hughes added five kills and had four blocks (one solo). Sophomore Gabriella Prieto brought up a team-high 12 digs in the libero spot and first-year Eden SHih directed the offense with 29 assists.
After dropping the first two sets, Pratt (0-6) stormed back in the third. The Cannoneers raced to an early 10-4 lead and pushed the Gryphons to the brink. Pratt earned four set points and held on to take the set in in extra points with Russell delivering the clinching kill as secured its first set victory at home this season.
Pratt couldn't keep the momentum in the fourth and the Gryphons used a 6-1 spurt at 11-10 to pull away for good.
Sarah Lawrence (5-7) was paced by Nikolet Vatajwho finished with a match-high 14 kills with 15 digs and six aces.
The Cannoneers head back on the road for four straight road dates, returning to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. matchup at City College of New York.
