NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to City College of New York on Thursday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The Cannoneers (0-7) fell by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 25-14.
Sophomore Kelsy Padilla (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Pratt with nine kills, three service aces and seven digs, while first-year Jamie Shoemake (La Crescenta, Calif.) added six kills, 12 digs and two aces. Maggie Hughes (Knoxville, Tenn.) chipped in four kills on a .200 hitting effort.
Setter Eden Shih (Manhattan, N.Y.) directed the offense with 21 assists, while libero Gabriella Prieto (Amityville, N.Y.) anchored the back row with seven digs and a service ace.
Pratt played a close second set that saw 11 ties early and both squads deadlocked at 17-all before the Beavers used a 6-0 run to take control of the frame. The Cannoneers rallied for four straight points to pull within two, but couldn't close the gap.
The black-and-yellow only trailed briefly early in the fourth but remained on top the rest of the frame to force a fourth set. CCNY won the first five points of the extra set and held control for good.
CCNY (2-8) was paced by Gia Skenderi's 18 kills.
Pratt travels to Patchogue, N.Y. Saturday for a tri-match hosted by St. Joseph's University (Long Island) facing Emmanuel at 11:30 a.m. and St. Joseph's at 1 p.m.
