BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite a strong and spirited effort on Senior Day, the Men's Soccer team came up just short in a 1–0 loss to Hunter College on Saturday afternoon at Aviator Sports & Events Center.
Before kickoff, the team honored its graduating class: Dimitris Papagiannakopoulos (Athens, Greece), Anthony Cowell (Boulder, Colo.), Spencer Giuliano (North Attleboro, Mass.), Vengkheang Meng (Siem Reap, Cambodia), Aditya Shivkumar (Bombay, India), Morvens Regis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Jude Fox (San Francisco, Calif.) and Anil Pugh (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago).
Hunter's lone goal came in the 12th minute, when Brandon Fridburg tapped in his first of the season with a high-looping shot off a feed by Georgios Tsiakas and Leonardo Kaplan. Despite being outshot 15–9 overall, the Cannoneers kept the game close behind the steady goalkeeping of Papagiannakopoulos, who made four saves in the first half to preserve the 1-0 deficit.
Pratt created several second-half chances but couldn't break through a strong Hunter defense. Freshman forward Lawton Tucker-Ortega (Denver, Colo.) registered one of the final attempts late, but it was blocked in the 89th minute.
Pugh made one save in the final 45 to help hold Hunter scoreless in the second half.
Pratt (0-7-1) suffers its fourth one-goal defeat this season and all seven losses have been by two goals or fewer.
The Cannoneers now turn their attention to conference play as they host Marymount University on Saturday, October 4 at Queens College, kicking off at 1 p.m.
