GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. — Fueled by a game-high 27 points from Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas), the Pratt Institute women's basketball team closed with a 24-7 fourth quarter, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 66-52 loss to Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon.
Gwynedd Mercy (6-13, 3-5 Atlantic East) controlled the first three quarters to build a substantial lead. Trailing 66-33 with 6:39 remaining in the game, Pratt (1-15, 0-8 Atlantic East) assembled a stunning 19-0 run to close out the contest, showcasing tremendous heart and determination until the final buzzer.
Grant was spectacular, scoring 15 of her game-high during the fourth-quarter surge. She was highly efficient, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line while flirting with a double-double adding nine rebounds and two steals.
Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) controlled the paint, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with seven points and a block. Miga Higa (Torrance, Calif.) added nine points and a team-high four assists. As a team, Pratt shot an impressive 40 percent from three-point range and 91 percent from the foul line.
The Griffins were led by 14 points and five steals from Brianna McFadden. Alyssa Cresto scored 11 points off the bench, and Layla Verbit added 10 points for the home team.
