BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team was dealt a 49-46 defeat by Centenary University from a pair of late three-pointers on Wednesday night in Atlantic East Conference play at the Activity Resource Center.
Pratt (1-16, 0-9 Atlantic East) held the lead for over 33 minutes and carried a three-point cushion in the final minute, but Centenary (12-8, 5-4 Atlantic East) closed out the contest with threes at 30 and 1.8 seconds to escape with the win.
The Cannoneers set the tone early, building a 15-11 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 23-20 advantage into halftime. Pratt extended its lead to as many as seven in the third quarter before taking a 35-33 lead into the final frame. A three-pointer by Dahlia Dimitrov (Montreal, Canada) gave the hosts a 42-37 cushion with 7:53 remaining, and an Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) reverse layup with 39 seconds on the clock put Pratt ahead 46-43.
The Cyclones answered with a game-tying three from Vatijah Davis with 30 seconds left. Following a Pratt turnover, Makayla Williams hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining to seal the game.
Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) led the Cannoneers with her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jakelic was dominant in the paint, recording her ninth double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, adding three steals and two blocks. Emily Carlson (Utica, N.Y.) cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds and five points. Dimitrov added six points on a career-high two three-pointers.
Davis paced Centenary with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Sofia Mendez came off the bench to score 13 points. Williams finished with six points, including the game-winner.
The Cannoneers return to action on the ARC floor on Saturday, February 7, welcoming Marywood University for a 1 p.m. conference contest.
