HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 road decision to Centenary University in an Atlantic East Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.
Centenary (4-8-2, 1-2-1) broke through late in the opening half before pulling away with three second-half goals to turn back the black-and-gold, moving Pratt to 2-8-1 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Both teams remained deadlocked for most of the half before the Cyclones opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when Sean Quinones converted a pass from Shane Gambarony and Bryant Morales to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage that stood as the game-winner.
Centenary extended its lead with a quick flurry midway through the second half after 30 minutes of scoreless action as Aedan Dorwart found the back of the net in the 75th minute and Elliott Tillinghast scored less than a minute later in the 76th minute to stretch the margin to 3-0. The hosts added another in the 83rd minute to finalize the scoring.
The Cannoneers generated quality chances in each half, testing Centenary goalkeeper Jimmy Curran four times. Bryan Hong-Dominguez (San Diego, Calif.) and Pavel Emam (Arlington, Va.) put attempts on frame in the 15th and 18th minutes, respectively, while Dylan Costa (Cresskill, N.J.) and rookie Lucca Novi (The Woodlands, Texas) each forced stops from Curran early in the second stanza.
Costa led Pratt with three shots, while Hong-Dominguez and Novi added two shots apiece. Dylan Knott (Albany, Calif.) also recorded a shot attempt. Sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) turned aside five shots on the afternoon, making all five stops during the second half.
Centenary held a 25-9 advantage in total shots, a 9-4 edge in shots on target and an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.Â
Pratt returns home on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosting Immaculata University in an Atlantic East match at 1 p.m. at Randall's Island Field 70.
