Late Penalty Sinks Men's Soccer At Home Against Immaculata

NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island Park.

The Cannoneers held the visitors off the scoresheet for nearly 80 minutes, but a late penalty kick allowed second-place Immaculata (5-9-0, 4-1) to claim the lone goal of the match and edge Pratt (2-9-1, 1-4).

After battling through a scoreless opening half and deep into the second period, the Mighty Macs earned a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Milan Kosiba converted the attempt at the 79:02 mark, beating the keeper for his third goal of the season.

Pratt generated quality pressure from the outset, forcing three saves from Immaculata goalkeeper Luca Greppellini in the opening 33 minutes. Alexander Litzenberger (Asheville, N.C.) put an attempt on frame in the second minute, while senior Dylan Costa (Cresskill, N.J.) tested Greppellini in the fifth and 33rd minutes.

Senior Griffin Benkovszky (Ashland, Va.) tested the Mighty Macs' back line in the second half, forcing saves from Greppellini in the 61st and 73rd minutes. Bryan Hong-Dominguez (San Diego, Calif.) and first-year Dylan Knott (Albany, Calif.) added late shot attempts as Pratt pushed for an equalizer in the final 15 minutes.

Costa and Benkovszky led the Cannoneers with two shots on goal apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) turned aside six shots on the afternoon, making three saves in each half to keep Pratt within reach.

Immaculata held a 15-7 advantage in total shots, a 7-5 edge in shots on goal and a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.

The one-goal decision was the closest in three meetings all time between the two sides, all in favor of the Mighty Macs.

Pratt returns to action on Monday, Oct. 19 for a non-conference make-up with York College kicking off at 3 p.m. in Jamaica, N.Y.
