NEW YORK — The Pratt Institute men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Elizabeth University in Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday evening at Randall's Island Park.
The Cannoneers remained within one goal for more than 70 minutes of play, but St. Elizabeth (2-4-2, 1-0) broke through late with two goals in the final three minutes to hand Pratt (2-6-1, 1-1) their first league loss.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Brandon Quishpi found the back of the net off a pass from Zach Ahmed. That tally eventual game-winner was the lone goal of the opening half.
Denzel Mezazeme doubled the margin in the 88th minute for a key insurance goal as Pratt pressed to equalize. Ahmed capped the scoring with seconds remaining in regulation to finalize the 3-0 scoreline.
Pratt hung close throughout the evening, keeping the Eagles off the board for a 70-minute stretch following the opening score. The Pratt defense cleared a ball destined for the back of the net in the 68th minute to keep the deficit at one, while the Cannoneers generated second-half chances on target from Aditya Shivkumar (Bombay, India) in the 48th minute and Dylan Costa (Cresskill, N.J.) in the 75th minute.
Rookie Lucca Novi (The Woodlands, Texas) paced Pratt with three shots, including one on goal. Pavel Emam (Arlington, Va.), Costa and Shivkumar each recorded a shot on target, while Dylan Knott (Albany, Calif.) added a shot attempt. Sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Pettit (Houston, Texas) played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves.
St. Elizabeth finished with a 12-7 edge in total shots, a 7-4 advantage in shots on target and a 6-3 margin in corner kicks.
Pratt continues Atlantic East play on Saturday, October 10, traveling to Arlington, Virginia to face Marymount University at noon at Long Bridge Park.
