Strong Second Quarter Highlights Women's Basketball's Visit to Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team put up a strong fight on the road, but ultimately fell to Marymount University, 69-46, in an Atlantic East Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Converse Family Fieldhouse. Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) recorded a massive double-double to lead three Cannoneers in double-figure scoring.

Pratt (1-19, 0-12 Atlantic East) held an early lead scoring on its opening possession, but Marymount (12-11, 9-3 Atlantic East) used a first-quarter run to build an 18-7 advantage. The Cannoneers responded with a strong second quarter powered by eight points from Jakelic to outscore the Saints 17-12 and headed into the lockers trailing by just six, 30-24..

The hosts opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run but Pratt tried to remain within striking distance. A three-pointer from Lola Mactavish (Sydney, Australia) made it a 10-point game with just over two minutes left in the period, but Marymount carried a 47-36 lead into the final frame and pulled away in the fourth.

Jakelic was a force all afternoon, finishing with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for her 11 double-double of the season. Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) was excellent from the charity stripe, going 10-for-12 on her way to 12 points, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a team-high four assists. Mactavish connected on three shots from beyond the arc for 11 points.

The Saints were led by Kaylah Barr, who scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Chandler Eddleton recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards, while Cara Vollmer added 14 points.

The Cannoneers return to the Activity Resource Center for their final two games of the season, beginning with a matchup against St. Elizabeth University on Wednesday, February 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
