Women's Basketball Posts Season-High Scoring Effort in Home Setback to Pacers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute women's basketball team produced its highest-scoring output of the conference season, but a strong fourth quarter from Marywood University lifted the visitors to a 74-65 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Activity Resource Center.

In a competitive game that featured 13 lead changes and six ties, Pratt (1-17, 0-10 Atlantic East) saw four players score in double figures. Marywood (11-10, 6-4 Atlantic East) relied on sharp three-point shooting and a late surge to secure the win.

The Cannoneers came out firing, trading baskets with the Pacers in a fast-paced opening quarter. A late jumper by Dahlia Dimitrov (Montreal, Canada) gave Pratt an 18-16 lead. The offense continued to click in the second, and a layup from Anabela Jakelic (Zagreb, Croatia) just before the buzzer sent the hosts into halftime with a narrow 32-31 advantage.

Pratt held its lead for most of the third quarter, going up by as many as six. A three-pointer by Emily Carlson (Utica, N.Y.) put the Cannoneers ahead 46-43 with just over three minutes left in the period, but Marywood closed the quarter on a 6-5 stretch to cut Pratt's lead to 51-49 entering the final frame. The Pacers opened the fourth on a 15-4 run and held off the Cannoneers down the stretch to seal the victory.

Kylie Grant (Dallas, Texas) led the balanced attack with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jakelic delivered another stellar all-around performance, posting a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 16 rebounds while dishing out a game-best six assists. Lola Mactavish (Sydney, Australia) was on fire from deep, draining four three-pointers for 14 points. Carlson provided a major spark off the bench, scoring 12 points and grabbing five boards.

Marywood was led by a game-high 19 points from Mia Blume, who knocked down five three-pointers. Megan Cavoli added 17 points, converting 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

The Cannoneers will travel to Aston, Pa. for their next contest, a road matchup against Neumann University on Wednesday, February 11. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
