Men's Volleyball Drops Tight Three-Set Match to CCNY

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Pratt Institute men's volleyball team fell in a competitive non-conference test to CCNY, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22), on Friday night at the Activities Resource Center.

Pratt (1-4) battled point-for-point with CCNY (2-2) in each frame, but the visitors made the key plays late in the sets to secure the victory.

Senior Max Wang (Shenzhen, China) led the Pratt attack with a team-high nine kills. Micah-Jude Upshaw (Baltimore, Md.) provided an efficient seven kills on a .273 hitting clip. Setter Nathan Kim (Irvine, Calif.) turned in a strong all-around performance with 17 assists, a team-high seven digs, and a pair of service aces.

The Cannoneers showed their grit in the final two sets, pushing the Beavers to the wire. After battling to a 22-22 tie in the second frame, CCNY claimed the final three points to take a 2-0 lead. The third set followed a similar script, with Pratt again pulling within 22-21 before the visitors won two straight for three match points.

CCNY was paced by a match-high 11 kills from Gabriel Linus, while Nana Boateng added eight kills. The Beavers established a strong presence at the net, finishing with an 8-0 advantage in total blocks. Setter Ruben Santiago dished out 29 assists in the win.

The Cannoneers head back on the road for their next contest, traveling to take on Yeshiva University on Monday, Feb. 9. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
